Marble is a metamorphic limestone rock used throughout the ages for both practical and decorative purposes. While we do specialist in marble kitchen worktops, we also supply marble in slab form for use in vanity worktops as well as tiles, fireplaces staircases, splashbacks, reception counter tops, restaurant bars and more. Mostly pale in colour, marble is recognised by the streaks or ‘marbling’ within the stone.
Maintaining a marble worktops
We recommended using warm water and a mild detergent with a damp soft cloth or a non-scratch cleaning pad or sponge.
Marble is a relatively soft material and is porous. This means that it will stain and mark unless cared for properly. Although very beautiful, it is essential to seal marble regularly to avoid damaging the stone. Marble is sensitive to acidic foods such as vinegar, lemon, tomatoes, wine, as well as some tile cleaners, mildew removers and other harsh cleansers.
As well as stains within the stone, marble can be affected by extreme temperatures. A marble counter-top, for example, could be easily damaged by hot pots resting on the surface.
